Welcome to our 8th Calgary Shivering Strings weekend workshop in 2026.
This year we have five fiddle instructors, one guitar class and one keyboard class. Our workshop format is each fiddle instructor will provide one tune for each playing level. The levels are Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.
When registering participants will self-identify and select their appropriate playing level.
Note: this workshop is not suitable for raw beginners.
Once you have registered, you will receive a link to all the music and mp3s. It is important that campers become familiar with the tunes. Time in the class will be spent perfecting the tunes, working on bowings, and developing the tunes musicality.
Our fiddle instructors this year are Gordon Stobbe, JJ Guy, Donna Turk, Ivonne Hernandez and Troy MacGillivary.
Jarred Albright will be teaching the guitar class. The class will focus on chord progressions, playing backup and ways to contribute to the music when you are not playing the melody. In order to sign up for the guitar accompaniment class, you must be able to play simple major and minor chords on your instrument and be comfortable with chord changes.
Cathy Sproule will be teaching the keyboard class. The class will focus on accompaniment through exploring chord progressions and chord framework within tunes. If you play the piano and are interested in learning how to accompany musicians, this is the class for you.
In addition to classes, we will have jamming sessions each day.
Friday evening is registration and the Instructors Concert
And a Barn Dance on Saturday night !!
